Printmaking from Glass Workshop

We’ve partnered with local art institutions, the Hunter Museum of American Art and the Association for Visual Arts (AVA), to offer an innovative workshop this spring: Printmaking from Glass. The workshop includes a Friday evening private tour of the Hunter Museum with curator of education, Adera Causey, which will focus on prints in the museum’s collection. On Saturday, participants will work in Ignis’s hot shop to develop a glass plate using a sandblasting method. Participants will return to the Hunter Museum on Sunday to run their plates through the traditional printing press. All supplies for this workshop are included in the registration fee of $120. Participants will walk away with 4 to 8 limited edition prints on paper and their glass plate.  Two sessions are available--morning or afternoon.
*This workshop is only available to members of the Hunter Museum of American Art and/or AVA.

Chris at Work in the Tennessee Aquarium and the Hunter Museum

The Hunter Museum of American Art and the Tennessee Aquarium recently partnered on a joint exhibition, Jellies: Living Art. The exhibit details the affinity between art glass and those colorful, pulsing underwater creatures. A video of Chris at work in the Hot Shop is on view in the Jellies exhibit at the Aquarium, as well as the 21st Century Reading Room at the Hunter Museum. You can easily catch both exhibits, which also feature artists such as Dale Chihuly, Stephen Powell, Cork Marcheschi, and Thomas Spake. After winding through the Aquarium, walk up First Street and across the Holmberg Pedestrian Bridge to the Hunter. For more information, visit the Aquarium site or the Hunter site.
